Current River Conditions: Normal flows have returned
Fishing Report-Fair to Good: The Fly ShopShop in Redding https://www.theflyshop.com reports "The increased flows from the Power House 2 riffle bypass have subsided and as we get closer to the fall the fish are putting on the feed bag. Rubberlegs continue to be a good choice in the Powerhouse 2 Riffle. The best hatches have been the Caddis coming off in the late evening. During the day Dead drift and swing Bird's Nests, Fox Poopahs, and Bubblebacks in size 14. Callibaetis will be found in the slower sections between the Powerhouse 2 Riffle and the 299 bridge. Trico spinner falls in the morning on the flats will have you finding fish rising in the seams just off of the weed beds. For the Tricos, a CDC Trico Spinner or the Drowned Trico works well. Nymph-wise, the BP Weiss nymph, X-Mays in #18, or Sweet Peas are great to have along with some Peaches n' Cream.!"
There is more to Hat Creek than the popular section between Powerhouse #2 and the Lake Britton inlet barrier. Note that there are miles and miles of creek upstream that get regular fish plants. The Cassel area and Baum Lake which are both quite close to Powerhouse #2 have some excellent fishing and many of the same bugs as the special regs section below PH #2.
Great patterns for fishing down deep are #18 Red Copper John's, #18 bead head flashback Pheasant Tails, #18 Micro Mayflies, #4 Black Rubber Legs, #14 Olive Birdsnests, #12 Poxy Stones. For dries: #20 Trico Spinners, #16 Rusty Spinners, Quigly Hackle Stacker (or similar), Tent Wing Caddis, Little Yellow Sally (EH Caddis style). Click here if you need some: https://bit.ly/2VjDpT3
